The pretty village of Guia is located forty minutes from Faro international airport off the main highway N125 It is the hub of a thriving villa population which includes Sir Cliff Richard's villa and vineyard, and over the past 30 years, more than 20 restaurants have emerged offering a selection of fine foods from the locally invented chicken piri-piri at the world famous Ramirez to two gourmet French restaurants.
Guia is situated just 10 minutes drive from several fabulous beaches the nearest of which is the superb white sands of Praia de Gale, a secluded gem with water sports and two beach side cafes.
One kilometre away you will find the Algarve Shopping Centre with an array of outlets both local and international. Here you will also find a multi-screen cinema and 10 pin bowling alley

Within a 5 minute drive is Zoomarine
one of the Algarve´s biggest attractions. Open all year round, entry tickets are very reasonably priced. The spectacular shows include: Dolphins in Motion - a breath-taking demonstration of the dolphins’ agility, intelligence and the special bond they have with their trainers. The Magic Book - a pantomime performed by seals, sea lions and their trainers, loosely based on Peter Pan. The Enchanted Forest - a slap stick show with tropical birds that promotes environmental awareness. Sweeping the Skies - a dramatic and educational birds of prey display, which allows you to see these impressive birds very close up! A favourite at the moment, is the 4D cinema show. This show is an entertaining assault on the senses. Polar bears sliding down glaciers, monkeys throwing apples at you, sharks with their teeth bared swimming towards you - fantastic!.
In addition there are family fairground rides, including the big wheel, which gives a spectacular view of the whole park. There is good access for wheelchairs and buggies, and is accessible for everyone.
For a once in a lifetime experience, there is also the opportunity to swim with the dolphins in a beautiful, tranquil environment, hidden away from the main park. The contact with the dolphins and the memories you may take away are priceless.
Golf
Golf on the Algarve is truly unique and an all round unforgettable experience. The year round sun and warm climate attracts many enthusiasts from chilly Northern Europe to play in the peak season of October to May. There are 30 or so golf courses on the Algarve, the first being designed by the famous Sir Henry Cotton and the rest have kept on coming and turned the Algarve into one of the premier golfing destinations in Europe.
There are several golf courses close to Guia, our nearest is Salgados a 10 minute drive away.
History
The village was established during Roman times and was called Alfontes by the Arabs, meaning beyond the water spring. Oral tradition tells that the site of the chapel of Nossa Srª da Guia is where the Virgin Mary once appeared and at one time drew pilgrims from all over the Algarve. These pilgrimages gave rise to the annual Guia Fair held from October 7th to 9th, in the chapel surroundings
